Our Philosophy on Innkeeping

blogger logo   Read our blog!
If you avoid B&Bs because you think they’re all about fussy Victorian doo-dads, flowery wallpaper, grandma’s lace, explosions of doilies, and in-your-face innkeepers, we’ve got a different approach you should consider: Enjoy a relaxed, "rustic-lux" atmosphere and be as engaged as you want.

First and foremost, we want you to feel comfortable, so relax and put your feet up. Use the common areas, make a cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa and have a snack. Browse the books or DVD collection. This is your home away from home. We’re here to make sure you are happy, have what you need, and to help during your stay if you need it. We’re as present as you want us to be, meaning if you just want time alone or with your partner—you’ve got it.

Feel like chatting over coffee? Want to talk about making plans for a day trip or just ask us about the inn and living in Vermont? —we’re here (usually either in the kitchen or puttering about the property). Should you need us after hours, there is a bell at the front desk that rings in the owner's apartments (we live on-site) or you can always text us or call if we’ve stepped out.

About Glenn, Jaime, & Gigi

Glenn, Jaime, and Gigi moved to Vermont in May 2012 to begin their new life as innkeepers of the Russell Young Farm Bed and Breakfast and immediately began updating and redecorating the entire inn. Prior to purchasing the Russell Young Farm Bed and Breakfast, Glenn and Jaime were Massachusetts residents living just south of Boston. Glenn had a Psychotherapy Private Practice and Jaime worked in Marketing and Corporate Communications for many years.

Glenn grew up in Middlebury Vermont, went to college in Northern California, traveled throughout North America, Europe and Israel, and lived in Portland Oregon for many years before driving cross country back to the East Coast to attend a Social Work Graduate Program in Boston. When you visit, ask how he moved from Northern CA by way of Alaska to settle in Portland OR. Glenn is a self-taught cook, and his love of cooking is the secret ingredient to the dishes you will savor at our B&B.

Jaime grew up in Holliston Massachusetts, attended UMASS Boston, and has traveled extensively throughout Eastern Canada due to his Nova Scotia roots. Jaime is a self-taught graphic designer and his eye for color and detail are evident throughout the B&B where every corner features another hidden delight. Jaime’s idea of camping is staying in a 2 star motel, so he has made sure that every guestroom and common area feature comforts and conveniences for our guests to enjoy.

Gigi is the newest addition to our family, and is frequently referred to as “the Monster in the Kitchen,” (think Jim Henson’s Muppets kind of Monster). Gigi was born in Battleground Washington and flew cross country to live with Glenn and Jaime in Massachusetts when she was merely 12 weeks old. Gigi loves Vermont, she loves people, and she is EXTREMELY out going and friendly.  She spends most of the day attached at the ankle to Glenn and/or Jaime, and she only interacts with guests upon request of the guest. The guest rooms and common areas are pet-free for everyone to enjoy, but you are welcome to come into the kitchen to say “hi” to our little monster or just wave to her as she lounges beside the puppy gate at the kitchen door.
