Russell Young Farm - Bed and Breakfast Vermont Small Barn

The Russell Young Farm Bed and Breakfast was originally built in the late 1800's, and was a working dairy farm. Several changes were made, the last being in 2001, when Carol and Dennis Hysko, the present owners, made many improvements to create a relaxing and comfortable Vermont Bed and Breakfast.

The house was originally a cape, and back in the sixties was enlarged to its present size. At that time, it became a ski lodge because of it's close proximity to the Mad River Glen Ski Area. In the mid eighties, a new owner used it for a family vacation retreat. In 1996, Carol and Dennis purchased it.

The Russell Young Farm was a dairy farm run by Russell Young. Remaining from the original farm is a small barn which kept salt, ice and grain.  Also remaining is a milk house directly across the road from the main house, where milk was stored, until Russell Young brought it to town, and a small garage which has now become a storage shed also remains.

Carol graduated from Rhode Island College, and until recently was a teacher in the Woonsocket School System, where she taught elementary and special ed students. Her interests lie in fiber arts, including weaving and spinning.

Dennis graduated from Boston University, and was involved in family businesses ranging from broadcasting to retailing. Dennis's hobbies include amateur radio and aviation, but taking care of the farm and it's animals have now become his main interest.

Carol and Dennis's children still live in  New England, Wendy  in Freeport, Maine, and Todd, his wife Wanda, and their baby girl  in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Both Carol and Dennis have shared their love of horses for over thirty years, and their horses have become an important part of their lives . On the farm you'll see Spy, (a UVM Morgan), Billie  (a Percheron),  and last but definitely not least, Sassy, (a donkey but more accurately, belongs to the breed of the "Spotted Ass").

Spy the horse. Big John the horse. Sassy the spotted ass. Kasey the yellow lab.
